The damage to the environment and society caused by plastic and its derivatives has long been before everyone’s eyes. The environmental impact of these products is causing very serious problems for which it is increasingly difficult to find a solution.
In 2016, Germano Craia, decided to create a company with the ambition to solve a problem that he himself had partially contributed to create: plastic waste. Thus, Germano – who prefers to call himself a European rather than an Italian entrepreneur – has chosen the city of Târgoviște, Romania, as the perfect place to open KIK Compounds, a company specialized in the production of biodegradable plastic and eco-bioplastic for strategic sectors such as the footwear industry, packaging, toys, construction and the automotive sector.
Plastic is used everywhere: packaging, construction, textiles, automobiles, electronic devices, agriculture. The use of plastic has increased twentyfold in the last fifty years, and there is not a single area of the world that does not know the damage of plastic pollution.
KIK Compounds is born from the desire to solve this problem. With our team, we work to develop solutions that allow industries and people to replace traditional plastic with biodegradable materials that have characteristics similar to plastic but do not have the same impact on the environment and human health.
Is biodegradable plastic really such an innovative technology? What will really change in our daily lives?
Plastic has been a revolutionary technology, this is indisputable. It helped change our lives and helped our industrial history. The problem with plastic is that it got out of hand. It has invaded our ecosystem, and we are talking about a product that will remain in our environment for thousands of years. So why not embrace this much more sustainable alternative in a convinced way,?
We are talking about products that retain all the characteristics of plastic, but that are also biodegradable. One of the biggest advantages of biodegradable plastic is that it will not change our daily life or product quality at all, because it maintains all the features that plastic has been providing for over a century. What will allow us to do more is to protect the environment and our own health.
What role can bio and biodegradable plastics play in terms of reviving the economy?
Europe has the opportunity to become the first carbon neutral continent in a couple of decades, and that’s fantastic. But why not also become the world leader in the production of biodegradable and eco-bioplastic plastics?
If Europe chooses to invest in innovation, it will not only relaunch its economy, but also position itself as a global trendsetter.
